In the late 1970s, up to 3 million people died in the Killing Fields of the Cambodian genocide. Few horrors compare to the Killing Fields of the Cambodian genocide. Over four short years, from 1975 to 1979, Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge systematically exterminated up to 3 million people.  The people of Cambodia had to live in fear, knowing that they might be the next one dragged out to the Killing Fields. The chances of being chosen were indeed high – by the end of the massacre, the Khmer Rouge had wiped out nearly 25 percent of the population. The nightmare began in Phnom Penh, with the end of the Cambodian Civil War. It was the last stronghold of the right-wing, military-led Khmer Republic, and with its fall, Cambodia came into the hands of the dictator Pol Pot and his communist Khmer Rouge regime. When the Khmer Rouge emerged from the civil war victorious and marched down the streets, thousands of terrified people fled, some ru...

In the 1980s, musician Daryl Davis set out to understand the Ku Klux Klan. So he started befriending members at Klan rallies and joined an all-white country band.    Then, he met Imperial Wizard Roger Kelly. Davis spent years building a relationship with Kelly, establishing trust and, eventually, a friendship.   They ate meals at each others' homes while Davis listened to Kelly, seeking to see how he could hate a person like Davis without even knowing him.  Eventually, Kelly started listening to Davis and left the Klan altogether, giving Davis his robes and hood.  And over the past decades, Davis has now convinced over 200 former Klan members to walk away.

Ryker was found tucked into a lawnmower bag. He was dressed in a light blue onesie that had been covered in dirt.  They quickly called the police and were shocked when they learned that a massive search for Ryker had been going on.   He survived two days in Montana wilderness in near-freezing temperatures in an area that, according to locals, is heavily populated with bears and mountain lions.

Reenactment of the execution of a British soldier for desertion.

Image
If anyone knows who's to credit for this scene, please let me know and will give credit.  Today 104 years ago, on December 3, 1917, British Private Joseph Bateman was executed for desertion. Unlike other British soldiers who were "Shot at Dawn" during the First World War, not much is known about Private Joseph Bateman, but this is what we know: Joseph Bateman was born in Wordsley, England around 1889. In November 1913, he married a woman named Florence Rudge, and on their first anniversary in November 1914, Bateman enlisted into the British Army with the 2nd Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment of the British 2nd Division. Bateman arrived on the Western Front sometime in 1915 or 1916, and most likely fought on the frontlines on the Somme. However, less than 6 weeks into his service, he went missing for unknown reasons. When he was found he was put into detention and then released on a warning, though the following day he went missing again, for w...
