In 2009, Dalia Dippolito was arrested for hiring a 'hitman' to eliminate her husband. It turned out the hitman was an undercover police officer and the whole thing was being filmed for the TV show COPS.

The case was caught on camera, and Dippolito's actions were broadcast on national television. In the end, she was found guilty of soliciting murder and given a 20-year prison term.



Dippolito was motivated to kill her husband because she was unhappy with her marriage and wanted to collect his insurance money. She was also attracted to the hitman whom she hired, and believed he would help her get away with murder.

A whole Russian family was wiped out except their 8-year-old daughter, Maria Chelysheva. In 2014, Maria’s 42-year-old father, Mikhail Chelyshev, wanted to have potato for lunch. When he entered the cellar where the potatoes were stored, he collapsed and died. His wife and son went to check what had happened to him, they also collapsed and died. Maria’s 68-year-old grandmother called for help, but she entered the cellar before any help could arrive. She was met with the same fate; she collapsed and died. The family made the mistake of storing their potatoes in their enclosed cellar and allowing them to decompose. Potatoes contain solanine, a glycoalkaloid that can be very toxic. As the potatoes decayed, they released toxic level of the glycoalkaloid that shut down their nervous system when they entered the cellar.
