Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny, was in a serious car accident that put him in a coma. After many unsuccessful attempts to get him to talk, the doctor asked, "Bugs, can you hear me?" Mel responded in Bugs voice: "Whats up Doc?" They used this technique to lead him out of his coma. Mel Blanc, known as "The Man of a Thousand Voices," tells a story about persistence. He became a well known voice actor, comedian, and radio personality who provided the voices for iconic cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig during the Golden Age of American animation. Born in San Francisco on May 30, 1908, he began his career in radio before transitioning to voice acting in animation, ultimately voicing over 400 characters in more than 3,000 animated cartoons. Blanc passed away on July 10, 1989, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of animation and voice acting.

China executed two milk producers on Tuesday for selling more than three million pounds of contaminated milk products

Image
China executed two milk producers on Tuesday for selling more than three million pounds of contaminated milk products in connection with a food-safety scandal that killed six infants, shocking the country last year   In 2008, a Chinese milk company intentionally tainted baby formula powder so they could pass quality control tests. At least six infants died and hundreds of thousands more got sick. This is milk producer and trader Geng Jinping begging for forgiveness during his trial. He was executed in 2009. Nineteen others have been jailed in connection with the case, which involved deliberately contaminating milk with melamine, a chemical used in manufacturing plastics and fertilisers. It resulted in product recalls around the world and caused outrage in China, particularly when details of a cover-up emerged. Parents were furious to learn that dairy farmers and middlemen had deliberately added melamine to boost the apparent protein levels of milk so that it would pass nutritional ...

Seven horses of the Queen's Household Cavalry lie dead after the IRA detonated a nail bomb, 1982

Image
Seven horses of the Queen's Household Cavalry lie dead after the IRA detonated a nail bomb, 1982 Th aftermath of the Hyde Park bombing which killed four soldiers, 1982. The Hyde Park and Regent’s Park bombings were one of the worst IRA atrocities on the British mainland, killing 11 soldiers and seven horses and leaving dozens injured. The bombs were detonated just a couple of hours apart on July 20, 1982, and timed to cause maximum casualties. The military casualties were quickly removed. But long-range camera lenses captured, in dreadful detail, the aftermath with the shattered remains of the car bomb surrounded by dead horses. Part of the power of the image is that it shows how indiscriminate the attack was. The soldiers were in general the primary target, but the terrorists were willing to accept whatever collateral damage came with them – including these horses. The dead and dying horses reinforce the brutality of the act, and thus the power of the image. The devices were ...

German soldiers take boots and other equipment from dead American soldiers at a crossroads in Belgium, 1944

German soldiers take boots and other equipment from dead American soldiers at a crossroads in Belgium, 1944 These A merican soldiers probably got ambushed by German machine guns when they were attempting a routine street crossing at the wrong time. They’re at a crossroads, a good spot to ambush an advancing army. This photo is taken during the early hours of the Battle of the Bulge, 1944. Pen marks indicate things Army censors redacted after the film was captured. The censorship shown on the photo was just an initial note that publishers would more thoroughly take out. They didn’t want people to be able to identify where the picture was taken. That’s why they were crossing out only the things that would identify the spot, even religious markings (the crucifix in the corner of the image). It was likely the result of routine censorship. For the Battle of the Bulge, the best units and equipment of the German military were concentrated for the push to the West. The battle was a las...

The Muse Brothers: How Two Kidnapped Albino African-American Brothers Became Unwilling Circus Stars

Image
T he Muse Brothers: How Two Kidnapped Albino African-American Brothers Became Unwilling Circus Stars In the early 20th century, a captivating yet heart-wrenching story unfolded, centered around two albino African-American brothers, George and Willie Muse. Their lives took a dramatic turn when they were plucked from a Virginia farm and thrust into the bright lights of the circus world. Their story is one of uniqueness, exploitation, and, ultimately, liberation. George and Willie Muse, the eldest of five siblings, were born to Harriett Muse in the small community of Truevine on the outskirts of Roanoke, Virginia. Born with albinism, a genetic condition that bestowed upon them pale skin, white hair, and striking blue eyes, they possessed features that set them apart from their peers. In addition to albinism, both boys also had nystagmus, a common occurrence with albinism that affected their vision. Their struggles with light sensitivity began so early that by the ages of six and nin...

Horrific footage shows Russian soldiers ‘castrating’ Ukrainian PoW with retractable blade TOE-CURLING footage posted online appears to show Russian troops castrating a captured Ukrainian soldier with a retractable blade, in a horrific act of torture. Analysis of the video suggests it is genuine, but experts said it was not possible to state when or where it had been filmed. Ukrainian politicians reacted with outrage and repeated calls for Western nations to arm them so they could push the Russian invaders from their borders. Since the invasion began over five months ago, Russian soldiers have been accused repeatedly of dreadful crimes against civilians and captured fighters. Ukrainian women and children are said to have been raped by Putin’s occupiers, and there have been widespread accounts of torture. Contrary to her message, her family confirmed that no such death had occurred. Sometime after 7 pm, Murray crashed her car into a tree. Seemingly uninjured, she spoke to a local bus driver moments after the crash. The bus driver offered to call for help. Robert Gould Shaw, a distinguished American officer during the American Civil War, served in the Union Army and led the first all-black unit. Upon his death, Confederates did not return his body. Instead, they placed him in a mass grave alongside his men.  This act was intended as an insult for his leadership of black soldiers.  Nevertheless, his father openly expressed pride in the knowledge that his son had been buried alongside his troops. He stated: "We would not have his body removed from where it lies surrounded by his brave and devoted soldiers. ... We can imagine no holier place than that in which he lies, among his brave and devoted followers, nor wish for him better company. What a body-guard he has!" Shaw’s leadership had a profound impact on the future of the Union Army. His leadership was so influential that it inspired many African-Americans to enlist in the Union Army. This was a significant contribution to the Union’s cause, as it helped to bols...

On February 22, 1942, a Japanese soldier on the Burma front during World War II fired all the bullets from his machine gun into Sam's intestines, liver and kidneys. Seeing him dying, his commander Major General Cowan immediately took off his Military Cross and placed it on his chest because the Military Cross was not given to a dead soldier. When Manekshaw was injured, orders were given that all the wounded should be left in the same position because if they were brought back, the speed of the retreating battalion would be slowed down. But his orderly Subedar Sher Singh carried him on his shoulder and brought him back. Sam's condition was so bad that the doctors did not consider it appropriate to waste their time on him. Then Subedar Sher Singh pointed his loaded rifle towards the Australian doctor and said, " We have carried our Saab on our shoulders while fighting the Japanese. We would not want him to die in front of us because you did not treat him."...
