Mr. Cruel is the alias for an unidentified Australian serial child rapist who assaulted three girls in the northern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He is also the prime suspect in the 1991 abduction and murder of a fourth girl, Karmein Chan. 



Authorities characterize Mr. Cruel as highly intelligent. He meticulously strategized each assault, surveilled the victims and their families. 

He also took measures to avoid leaving forensic evidence, concealed his identity by consistently obscuring his face, and intentionally left misleading clues to divert both family and police focus.

During one assault, he paused to have a meal inside a victim's home. 

He wielded threats of injury to either the victims or their family members, brandishing a knife or a handgun.

Mr Cruel has never been identified.

There is a reward of A$200,000 for the two abductions. In April 2016, twenty-five years after the death of Karmein Chan, Victoria Police increased the reward for information that leads to the perpetrator's arrest and conviction, from A$100,000 to A$1,000,000.

Karmein Chan, a thirteen-year-old girl, was abducted from her home in Templestowe, Victoria, in April 1991. Her body was found several months later, and her murder remains unsolved to this day.
