Throughout the course of live theater, there have been a number of cases of actors accidentally taking their own lives during scenes.  In 2016, actor Raphael Schumacher tragically hung himself while reenacting a hanging scene on stage.  The stunt left him in a coma, and shortly afterward, doctors declared him clinically deceased. Schumacher changed the play's script at the last minute, the directors of the theater company told Italian newspaper Il Giorno: "The original monologue included a fake gunshot but he eventually decided for the hanging -- without telling us." The incident occurred during an interactive performance in Pisa, Italy. Schumacher was performing a monologue from Frank Wedekind’s Spring Awakening alone in a courtyard in front of just one spectator. The performance ended with Schumacher placing his head in a noose. The actor was discovered unconscious and seriously oxygen-deprived by a second spectator, reportedly a medical student, who ru...

A photo of Abu Tahsin al-Salhi, an Iraqi veteran sniper who is credited with killing over 384 ISIS members during the Iraqi Civil War, receiving the nickname “Hawk Eye.” Al-Salihi’s sniper skills were honed by none other than the Russian military, and he put them to use in the battle against ISIS. His journey took him from the Battle of Jurf Al Nasr to the rugged terrain of the Makhoul Mountains in northern Iraq. Tragically, Abu Tahsin al-Salihi fell in action during the anti-ISIS offensive against Hawija, Iraq. His funeral, held on September 30, 2017, marked the end of an era—a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of a man who epitomized the spirit of a hawk-eyed warrior. Unfortunately he was killed by ISIS on September 29, 2017. Iranian thugs killed him. He was shot in the back of his head on a mission. Just after he gave interview and said he served on the Iraqi side in the Iran-Iraq war. Saying that means traitor these days.  Like a german saying he f...

The story behind iconic Female Viet Cong Guerrilla photograph, 1972 A Viet Cong guerrilla stands guard in the Mekong Delta. Her name is Lam Thi Dep (Dep means beautiful in Vietnamese), the picture was taken in 1972 at Soc Trang Province by Vietnamese journalist Minh Truong. “You could find women like her almost everywhere during the war”, said the photographer. “She was only 24 years old but had been widowed twice. Both her husbands were soldiers”. She’s wielding an M-16, the standard-issue American soldier’s rifle. Usually, these types of photos were taken for propaganda purposes. North Vietnamese women were deeply involved at all levels of the military campaign throughout the war, especially at the business end, fighting against the American-led forces in the jungle. North Vietnamese women were enlisted and fought in the combat zone as well as provided manual labor to keep the Ho Chi Minh trail open, cook for the troops, and some served as “comfort women” for ma...

A mother and her children wade across a river to escape US bombing, 1965 A Vietnamese mother and her children wade across a river, fleeing a bombing raid on Qui Nhon by United States aircraft on September 7, 1965. The photo depicts a South Vietnamese mother fleeing through a river. She and her four children were forced to leave their village, Qui Nhon, near Quinbonso. The U.S. Air Force had asked all inhabitants to evacuate the village because the Vietcong had been using it as a base camp to fire at the U.S. Marines. This picture was the 1966 World Press Photo of the Year. After he won the prize, photographer Kyoichi Sawada searched and located the two families in the picture and gave them all the prize money, and each a copy of the photograph. Four years later in Cambodia, 1970, photographer Kyoichi Sawada died in the field, doing what he loved most.
