A fan of the Chicago Bulls successfully made a remarkable shot during a 1993 game, winning a million-dollar prize. This shot, nicknamed "The Calhoun Shot" or "The Immaculate Connection,"
occurred when spectator Don Calhoun made a 75-foot shot from the free-throw line at the opposite end of the court during a timeout in the third quarter of a Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat game on April 14, 1993.
The shot was part of a promotional campaign offering a million-dollar reward to any fan who could achieve this feat.
However, an insurance company named American Hole 'N One Inc initially invalidated the payment, citing a technicality due to Calhoun's past involvement in college basketball, which violated the contest rules.
Despite this setback, both fan and player uproar ensued over the non-payment to Calhoun. Eventually, the sponsors of the promotion, including Coca-Cola and the Bulls, decided to honor the payment.
As a result, Calhoun received $50,000 annually for the next two decades, totaling the promised million-dollar prize.
Interestingly, Calhoun mentioned that Michael Jordan later remarked,
"we made them pay it," referring to the collective effort that led to the sponsors fulfilling the payment.
