A woman moving to another village takes with her the bones of her dead son. Balkan Front, June 1916.

The woman in the photograph is carrying the bones of her dead son, who was killed in the Balkan Front during World War I. 
She is moving to another village, perhaps to seek refuge from the fighting, or to start a new life away from the memories of war. But she cannot bear to leave her son behind, so she takes his bones with her.

A whole Russian family was wiped out except their 8-year-old daughter, Maria Chelysheva. In 2014, Maria’s 42-year-old father, Mikhail Chelyshev, wanted to have potato for lunch. When he entered the cellar where the potatoes were stored, he collapsed and died. His wife and son went to check what had happened to him, they also collapsed and died. Maria’s 68-year-old grandmother called for help, but she entered the cellar before any help could arrive. She was met with the same fate; she collapsed and died. The family made the mistake of storing their potatoes in their enclosed cellar and allowing them to decompose. Potatoes contain solanine, a glycoalkaloid that can be very toxic. As the potatoes decayed, they released toxic level of the glycoalkaloid that shut down their nervous system when they entered the cellar.

The shooting, which then led to an officer-involved shooting, took place in front of Superstop in the 5100 block of Asher Avenue on New Year’s Eve, according to police. Authorities say Taz Hayes, 29, opened fire on 22-year-old Kelecia Mayo. As the shooting unfolded, officials say Little Rock Police Chief Keith Humphrey, who was on patrol on the night of New Year’s Eve, reportedly encountered the fight, got out of his vehicle and shot back at Hayes.
